Hey I live in Atlanta and I have talked to two M109 owners that stated their second gear broke. Have anybody had this problem?

The first to second shift can be a pain but still have second gear. :)

I have never heard of that on the 9, and to have two people that know each other too have this happen, I would either say B.S. or some real hard abuse of the bike.

I have heard of all sorts of problems , hard shift from first to second to complete transmission failure. Shift forks gone bad with drop out of gear problems ,no lube in the driveshaft. I love the 9 but it has it's problems. Some are from the manufacturer, and some no doubt the owners fault. I crunched my secodary drive gears at first I thought it was the transmission, but I ride my 9 like I ride my BUSA. If you ride hard you got to take care of it hard!

Yes this is also my problem I have to tell myself its NOT the busa and remember Im now on the bike that shifts like a truck. It not a big problem just the first to two second shift is a longer throw.:D

but at times I forget and miss second gear:mad:

I guess you are right Jim. Let me clarify, when I say I ride my 9 like I ride My BUSA I mean I ride it a little fast, the shifting characteristics are deffinitly different as far as torque is concerned! When you downshift the 9 you know it. You can be going over a 100 mph on the BUSA and have to downshift a couple of gears to get the rear to grab like you want it to. Been riding since 69 and my favorite bikes since then has been the BUSA and the 9. Had a 78 GS1000 I had a lot of fun with back in the day though!

That is weird.....I have an '07 M109 with about 4800 miles on it now and the only tranny probs I have encountered is when I am at a stop light in neutral and it takes a little rocking forward to get it to go into first. That happens rarely and otherwise, the tranny has been perfect. I have done a few quick shifts from first to second when blowing away harleys, but have been just riding it normal most of the time. I suppose anyone who is overly abusive could have these situations come up on the 9 and other bikes too....I knew some guys back in the day riding the old FJ100 yams and the 12's and would blow second gear out completely. If this were to really become or is a serious problem. it makes sense that Suzuki would have had a correction recall about that by now.
