Has anybody installed a Cobra handlebar mounted (takes the place of the upper handlebar mounting split bracket) tachometer on their C50, and if so, what needle range are you showing for various gears and speeds? I installed one, running off what Clymer shows as ignition coil line out, and needle consistently shows about 1800-2000 RPM's on average. Fifth gear at 72 mph tachs out at 2200 max. Idle shows around 700 RPM, which I would think is right. But high reving doesn't move needle past approx 2000. Needle does drop down at higher gears, and up at lower, but sensitivity doesn't seem to be there to move it much.

I'm wondering if where you splice in makes a difference.... . I'm pretty close to the coil itself, as there isn't a whole lot of room to work with, white wire out.

Any help appreciated.

I have not installed one but it sounds like you have wired it up right. The tach will not go over 2000 rpm? I would all Cobra and ask them why this is.

According to Cobra, it's the damping factor associated with the tach that limits needle range. And according to what I've been reading about some Harleys, they're topping out around 2500 rpm, fifth gear 72 MPH. Oh well, it looks nice anyway.
