Hey guys,
New here and new to bikes. I just picked up my pearl white 109R yesterday. This is a awesome machine with lots of power, not that I would know the difference because I never rode a bike before.
My question is where do you guys get your replacement parts from? Dealer or mail order?
While practicing riding on some back country roads like my WIFE said I needed to do, I hit some loose gravel and dropped the bike on it's side. I picked it up and cried all the way home to check it out. Couldn't believe I scratched up my new bike with only 60 miles on it!
I broke the front left turn signal, bent the shifter, and broke the left foot peg. I also put a small dent on the tank and screwed up the boulevard emblem. I want to replace the signal, foot peg and emblem but would rather bend the shifter back into position because unfortunately this might not be the last time. Could someone post some pics of their shifter? I bent it back to where I think it needs to be but it seem high. Could be just because the foot peg is broke.
James
PS. still crying this morning.

Maybe call your insurance company I had almost the same thing happen to me on my old F2.

Thanks for the pics. Mine looks like that but it seems to high. It's going back to the dealer Monday and see what they think. I don't think the damage is high enough for insurance at least I hope. I will call them next time. (Hopefully there isn't a next time)

On the shift lever all you can do is try to bend it where it comes out straight from the motor. Also parallel to the floor so basically square it up the best you can. After that if the lever "seems" high as you stated adjust the linkage. The way to do that is take off the chrome cover that is behind the foot peg and to the right of it as you face it. There is a linkage with a bar and a nut on each end loose both nuts and turn the bar it will move the lever up and down. Its sorta a feel thing where it works best for you. There is a spec for it in the manual but i just go by feel everytime i change pegs or something.
If that dont get you there post again im sure we can get more info for you. Also id just buy after market pegs instead of another stock peg. At best you will pay roughly 1/3 for a stock replacement. IMO they arent as nice as aftermarket Kuryakyn pegs with adaptors, if the cash isnt an issue. There are alot of options as well just /google kuryakyn and check there stuff out.
Also if you still arent sure you have it right post up a couple pics and that will help us help you.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that you went down with only 60 miles on your beast!
Glad that it was minor and looks like you can get it all fixed!
You might want to go ahead and remove the scratched up tank emblem before you buy one. take a look at the lines of the bike & tank without vs. with the emblem by walking around your bike. That way, you can decide if you want to replace the one you took off, or remove the other one as well. I got lucky as I got to see my bike with them on, and since the dealer had to replace the tank due to a huge chip from shipping, I got to see the tank clean. The mechanic asked me if I wanted to put them on or not. I immediately decided to leave them off. They're sitting in my display case still in plastic to put on if I should ever decide to do that.
Almost all stock parts can be obtained online. Like 2006moy said...google the parts in question and you should come up with what you want.
Stay safe and please wear safety equipment, at least until you're experienced. After that, do what you want. But, as you said...it could happen again and sometimes they're painful...but pain is MUCH better than dead!

Thanks guys, I like some of the kuryakyn pegs but I don't have time to wait, I need a peg. Riding like this is kind of a pain in the butt. Riding this thing is not as easy as sitting in my truck but damn it's addicting. I love all the attention too. This thing is better looking than 99% of the bikes I pass up. I don't have to worry about people not seeing me because they stare the whole time I'm rollin past.

you are right about the celebrity part. There are five other bike at our shop right now but everyone can't stop talking about and admiring my white 109. For lunch I had to ride out of a group of four people standing around it. If they knew how green I am on the takeoffs they would move!

Just stay as steady as you possibly can and they will never know the difference. Looks like you are doing fine anyway. You know there are only two kinds of riders? Those who have fell, and those who are going to fall. So you see you are half way there already, and on your way to being a safe and responsible rider.

Great forum. You all didnt pick on the new guy so I feel comfortable sharing this. Just brought home my new 109 Tuesday. Have ridden bikes (a little) but never owned one. I have watched the 109 for a few years and fell in love with it. I have now been able to rationalize buying it with the gas prices. Its a big bike. Didnt need an 1800 but thats what was avail. So with that... there is alot of power. Thought I was good enough to put a rider on the back... MY WIFE. First ride. I have been nursing first gear cause its tight. Well, she wasnt holding on tight, thought she had the strap on the rear seat, LESSON LEARNED. I dumped her.. or she caused it to happen.. no so mush pain on the pride with the latter. You guys that are laughing uncontrollably I will wait for a sec.... cause there is a question here... With the change in the weight distribution... OH YEA, SHES OK, just a sore tailbone, and she got back on... it threw this new rider into all kinds of mess. As I turned my head to check on her, my throttle hand simultaneously gased the bike... blah blah blah... It went down softly, but none the less, I have a scratched up Boulevard Emblem. I know its minor, but still, a new bike with a mark is embarrassing to me. So, after all that here it is, other than buying a new one right now cause Im only seeing them online for 06-07, is there a "Chrome" paint I can buy to touch it up and avoid the questions and razzing? Thanks All. Cant wait to become comfortable with this AWESOME and Beautiful Bike.

Hey, welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of 9!
I'm pretty sure that most everyone here has dropped a bike at one time or another. I know that I did and then some woman tried to kill me in Missouri with her Caddy. I won. *smirks*
Sorry to hear that your wife got dumped off the back. I'm glad to hear that she's not hurt and impressed that she got right back on. That's a good wife you have there!!!! Maybe you should have her hold onto you until you're both much more comfy with the bike. Think of it as built in "closeness" and women most generally like that.
So, here is my piece of advice after having many people on the back of many different bikes. Always make sure that you are totally comfy with your bike before riding 2 up. I mean, comfy enough that you know every nuance of the bike. Since you're a newer rider, I'd recommend at least a month and a couple of thousand miles of riding solo before riding with a passenger. Just my personal viewpoint on it.
As for your scratched emblem. Why not take them both off? If you're planning on replacing the scratched one, why not take it off & clean up that side real good and then view the bike from both sides. If you prefer the emblem on, replace the one you took off and you're all set. If you prefer the look with them off (most people who have seen their bike this way like it), then you only have 1 more to take off and you're all set. Your Suzuki dealer should be able to order the emblems for you.

I'm sure the only reason I haven't dumped my wife is because she hasn't rode with me yet. I have almost a month of riding and 600 miles so far. I took a safety course to help out with my learning. We rode some Vulcan 500s. Boy am I glad I bought a big bike, I didn't fit on those little bikes to well. My knees were up too high and when making a tight u turn the handle bars were in my chest. Kind of hard to maneuver when you don't fit. makes me love my 109 that much more!

The M109 is a very large bike just pull up along side a Harley some time and compare the size differents. I have also had problems getting use to the weight and size of the beast and have had other bikes before. This just takes some time

Thanks for the feedback. The back seat came off already and I put on the cover. A few thousand miles and the safety course are in ther future. Man I love this bike!

Hi Guys, WELCOME to a great site , glad to hear the "offs" are only minor ones , thanks for the info 2006moy on the gear lever adjustment ,i have fitted the footboards from the M50 to my 109 ,gives me more foot support without having massive boards but i did find the clearance between the boards and the gear lever was reduced , i adjusted the angle of the lever back towards the motor ,now it works great , as for keeping your pillions in place i fitted the sissybar to my 9 before i took anyone on the back , on getting parts James try ebay or the 109 forums , i fitted the Quick change seat kit (an excellent idea) makes swapping the seat to cowl over a lot easier ,take it easy out there Guys ,Paul ..
